CUPE demands end to threats on picket line at United Church centre

NARAMATA - CUPE is “extremely troubled” by reports of a manager’s aggressive and threatening behaviour on the picket line outside the United Church’s Naramata Centre. A union tent used by striking staff was damaged during an incident Monday night.

CUPE BC Secretary-Treasurer Paul Faoro said RCMP have been notified and are reportedly investigating the incident involving a Naramata Centre manager.  “According to witnesses, verbal and physical threats were made against striking CUPE members and this is totally unacceptable,” said Faoro.

Castlegar workers launch overtime ban

CASTLEGAR – Castlegar city workers have instituted a ban on overtime work in an effort to restart stalled contract talks.  CUPE Local 2262 served 72-hour strike notice with the BC Labour Board last Friday. 

The job action follows a membership meeting of the local on Monday night.  The 34 CUPE 2262 members have been without a contract since February 2013. This is the first time in 60 years that the union has been forced to a strike in its contract negotiations with the City of Castlegar.

Castlegar city workers serve first-ever strike notice

CASTLEGAR – CUPE Local 2262 city workers have filed 72-hour strike notice with the BC Labour Board. The 34 workers have been without a contract since February 2013. This marks the first time in 60 years that the union has been forced to a strike in its contract negotiations with the City of Castlegar.

The union will be in legal strike position on Monday. A closed union meeting is scheduled for Monday night to discuss next steps. Strike action can include everything from a ban on overtime work to a full-fledged city-wide walkout.

CUPE 1004 reaches tentative deal at PNE

CUPE 1004 PNE bargaining committee goes over final revisions to tentative deal.

 

VANCOUVER - CUPE 1004 and the Pacific National Exhibition have reached a tentative three-year agreement.  The deal comes three days before the start of the annual fair.  CUPE represents 3,400 fulltime, part time and Fair-time workers at the PNE.

Castlegar workers push city for more talks

CASTLEGAR – It was standing-room only as members of CUPE 2262 filled the Castlegar City Council meeting Monday night.  Armed with Support Public Workers pins and cards, the members of the unit and supporters showed up to let the city know where they stand on contract negotiations.

New agreement ratified for CUPE 2058 in the City of Langley

LANGLEY – CUPE 2058 and the City of Langley have ratified a new collective agreement.

Andrew Brown, president of CUPE 2058, said that it was a respectful round of bargaining, and that the new agreement will provide stability and certainty for the city and its employees.

New agreement for CUPE 798 in the Powell River Regional District

POWELL RIVER - The Powell River Regional District and its CUPE members have ratified a new collective agreement.

The settlement was achieved after five days of bargaining. The agreement reflects the priorities of both parties to treat employees fairly and with respect, and to recognize the financial realities of the Regional District.

Settlement highlights include improvements to paramedical benefits and sick days and wage increases providing an 8.5 per cent lift over five years. The agreement also recognizes CUPE members’ right to be represented by their union.

PNE bargaining begins

VANCOUVER - Members of CUPE Local 1004 and the Pacific National Exhibition have begun bargaining for a new collective agreement.

The current agreement expired on December 31, 2013.

Gibsons library workers conclude a new agreement

GIBSONS — The Gibsons and District Public Library Board and its workers, who are members of  CUPE 391, have reached a new four-year collective agreement.

CUPE 391 members held a ratification vote on June 4, while the Library Board ratified the agreement on June 14.
