Calling all Pacific Blue Cross plan members
BURNABY – Pacific Blue Cross plan members are asked to attend the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, July 24 in the Crystal Ballroom at the Hilton Hotel Metrotown and help elect a progressive, accountable board that acts in the interest of plan members and respects its own workers.
“After our long and difficult negotiations and the lock-out last year, we want to finish the job we started last December when all candidates we endorsed for the board were elected,” said CUPE 1816 President Beth Miller. “We hope a lot of CUPE members make it out to this important vote, to help us send the message that it’s not okay to treat workers badly.”
Board members are elected for two-year terms, with half of the positions coming up for election on alternating years.
CUPE BC Secretary-Treasurer Trevor Davies is endorsed in the organizational category. In the individual category, candidates who have been endorsed by CUPE 1816 are President of USW 1-417, Marty Gibbons; and former President of the Vancouver & District Labour Council, Joey Hartman. Two current board members getting the nod from the Local are Mary LaPlante, former Financial Secretary of HEU, in the individual category and Richard Taylor in the organizational category. The two candidates in the health care professional category were acclaimed.
Registration starts at 3 pm and members should be registered by 6 pm when the meeting gets underway. All primary beneficiaries of Pacific Blue Cross are entitled to vote. Bring your PBC card (the same card used to pick up a prescription), printable at CARESnet, and your photo I.D. to register at the AGM.
