CUPE BC celebrates National Aboriginal Day

CUPE BC celebrates National Aboriginal Day

BURNABY—CUPE BC President Paul Faoro, on behalf of Secretary-Treasurer Trevor Davies, the provincial executive board, and the union’s 85,000 members throughout B.C., wishes everyone a happy National Aboriginal Day.

“This year’s theme is promoting truth and reconciliation. Thanks to Justice Murray Sinclair and the work of his commission, which was highlighted at our national convention in Vancouver last fall, we all know what that means,” said Faoro.

“Today, as we celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of our First Nations and Metis peoples and their many contributions to our communities, it is important to reflect on how each of us can make a difference—not only in redressing historic wrongs but in actually making things better for aboriginal people right now.”

CUPE BC and its Aboriginal Working Group will have a tent and table at the twentieth anniversary celebration of National Aboriginal Day at Trout Lake, running from 12 noon until 5 p.m.
