BURNABY—Earlier this month CUPE BC released its 2014 Local Elections Guide to members as a special insert in the Public Employee magazine. Today translated versions of the guide were released.
“We want to make sure that all our members are able to understand the issues facing their communities as the November 15 local elections get closer,” said CUPE BC President Mark Hancock. “A key part of that is ensuring that we get information to members in the languages they speak at home. That’s why, in addition to English, the Local Elections Guide is now available in Punjabi, Cantonese, Tagalog and Vietnamese.”
The original edition of the Guide is here, and members can find versions translated into Vietnamese, Tagalog, Cantonese or Punjabi by clicking on the links.
“I hope that all our members have had a chance to read the Guide, and are considering the positions taken by candidates in their communities,” said Hancock. “On November 15, we have an opportunity to elect progressive leaders to local government all across the province. CUPE members are taking an active role in election campaigns, and I know their votes will make a big difference on Election Day.”
