National President visits locked-out Quilchena Golf & Country Club workers

RICHMOND—CUPE National President, Paul Moist, and CUPE BC Secretary-Treasurer, Mark Hancock joined locked-out members on the picket line at Quilchena Golf & Country Club yesterday (Feb.28).

The 19 CUPE Local 4964 members have been locked-out for more than three weeks now and despite numerous invitations by the union to return to the bargaining table management refuses to end the lockout.

“I have received calls from concerned members across the country about this lockout,” said Moist. “I am here today on behalf of all 625,000 CUPE members across the country who all stand in solidarity with you while you fight for a fair and reasonable collective agreement.”

CUPE members from locals 389, 454, 716, and 3966 also joined the picket line and the CUPE BC events trailer was on hand as well.

“We really appreciate all the support we have gotten from CUPE members as well as from CUPE BC and CUPE National,” said CUPE National Representative Sung Wong. “We remain hopeful that the employer will end this lockout soon so the members can get back to work and so we can resume negotiations.
