CUPE paramedics honoured with Diamond Jubilee Award

CUPE paramedics honoured with Diamond Jubilee Award

OTTAWA—Nine members of the BC Ambulance Paramedics, CUPE Local 873, have been awarded with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. This prestigious award recognizes these members for the work they have done to promote the paramedics profession locally, provincially and nationally.

The awards were presented yesterday (November 19) by federal Minister of Health Leona Aglukkaq and parliamentary secretary Dr. Colin Carrie.

CUPE National president Paul Moist and CUPE BC president Barry O’Neill were on hand to congratulate the members on their achievement.

“It is not every day that our members win a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal as recognition of their commitment to serve our communities,” said Moist. “It is a great honour, and a great showcase of the value of the essential public services that CUPE members provide.”

“We are very proud of the BC Ambulance Paramedics – every day they are out in our communities saving lives,” said O’Neill. “Though not recognized enough for their role, this award shows how important paramedics are.”

CUPE would like to congratulate all nine paramedics awarded:

Paramedic Supervisor – Tom Manz

Paramedic Supervisor – Bill Leverett

Paramedic Unit Chief  – Bryon Longeway

President CUPE Local 873 – Bronwyn Barter
