Picket line forms at UVic

Picket line forms at UVic

VICTORIA – CUPE locals 917 and 951 initiated job action this week, launching an overtime ban (917) and picketing on campus (951). The picket line of more than 150 members took place outside a facilities building on Wednesday.  The overtime ban is ongoing.

The picket line was joined by PEA workers and by BCGEU VP Paul Finch. CUPE VP Trevor Davies was also on hand as were representatives from CUPE 4163 at UVic. CUPE 917 president Rob Park led the picketers on a march through the campus before arriving at the administration building where he called on the university to get back to the bargaining table. “This is Day One,” he said, “and we want the university to realize that we are serious about doing whatever it takes to get them to bargain in good faith for a fair collective agreement.”
