Putting politics into action–CUPE BC political action conference underway

Putting politics into action–CUPE BC political action conference underway

BURNABY—An enthusiastic audience of CUPE members were treated to a rousing, campaign-style speech from BC NDP leader Adrian Dix last night as CUPE BC’s 2011 political action conference opened in Burnaby.

CUPE BC president Barry O’Neill kicked off the conference, emphasizing the importance of working people–especially CUPE members–participating in the political process at all levels of government.

With the federal election just finished, the ongoing HST campaign, a likely provincial election in the coming months, and local elections this November, 2011 is going to be one of the most critical times for CUPE members to get involved, O’Neill said.

The theme of the three-day conference is “Putting politics into action.” Nearly 100 delegates are participating in panel discussions and a wide range of workshops focusing on topics such as social media, campaign techniques and capacity building.
