Community Social Services workers to Bloy: Give us a fair deal!

Community Social Services workers to Bloy: Give us a fair deal!

BURNABY—British Columbia’s 15,000 community social service workers—including 2,500 CUPE members—are asking their supporters to contact their MLA, and Social Development minister Harry Bloy, to demand a fair deal.

Unionized CSS workers provide important services to women, children and families, youth, people with physical or developmental disabilities and First Nations in towns across British Columbia. In recent times, however, community social services have suffered from cutbacks and inadequate government funding. In some areas, resources are stretched to the breaking point. In others, entire programs are closing. Waiting lists have grown at an alarming rate. And many workers are now dealing with unsustainable workloads.

The unions representing community social services workers have launched a website, www.cssfairdeal.ca. Please visit the site and send an e-mail to Minister Bloy (and your B.C. MLA) demanding fairness for CSS workers.
