Word on the Street happening September 26

VANCOUVER—Word on the Street is a one-day festival that brings communities together to support literacy and the written word. This year’s event is being held on Sunday, September 26 at the Vancouver Public Library’s Central branch, Library Square and the CBC Plaza.

CUPE Locals 15, 389, 391, 1004 and CUPE Metro are again sponsoring the festival along with CUPE BC and CUPE National.

The festival is a showcase of local publishers, booksellers and authors and features book sales, readings and performance art. As part of its festival contribution CUPE is sponsoring readings by authors Carol Ann Shaw and Maggie de Vries. CUPE members will staff the CUPE tent and provide children’s entertainment. The event starts at 11 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m.
