Sun shines for Surrey Pride

Sun shines for Surrey Pride

SURREY—Hundreds turned out for this year’s Surrey Pride at Holland Park on Sunday (July 11).

CUPE 391 member and pink triangle activist Peter DeGroot, who staffed a CUPE table as part of the multi-union pride presence, said the union had high visibility at this year’s event, thanks to the “great swag” provided for distribution, including CUPE buttons, yo-yos, keychains and first aid kits.

“All of the material was very popular, and again raised the profile of how CUPE BC does build strong communities,” said DeGroot.

Meanwhile, New Westminster will hold its first Pride event this year (August 7 at Tipperary Park), and the Royal City is coming out with a bang: the rainbow flag will be raised at City Hall, and the mayor will proclaim the first official Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Pride Day.
