Free public forum on child care

Free public forum on child care

VANCOUVER—The verdict has long been in – a public system blending early childhood education and child care (ECEC) delivers high quality programs for children and families. What would that system look like? What can we do to push governments to act?

Canada’s private approach to child care has produced a patchwork of unplanned programs that vary in quality affordability and availability. This approach has sparked an alarming trend: the growth of for-profit child care.

Join us for an evening forum to discuss, and act on, building a public child care system. Susan Prentice, associate professor of sociology at the University of Manitoba and co-author of a newly-released book on ECEC – About Canada: Childcare, will join Susan Harney from the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC and the Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada, and Adrienne Montani, provincial coordinator for First Call Children and Youth Advocacy Coalition.

The event is open to all and will be of interest to parents, community youth and child care workers and activists, policy makers and others.

DATE: Tuesday, November 24
TIME: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
PLACE: Alice MacKay room, Vancouver Public Library Square, 350 West Georgia St., Vancouver

On-site child care provided
