CUPE 873 honours NDP’s Farnworth for helping save life

Timely intervention demonstrates importance of learning CPR, paramedics say

COQUITLAM—The Ambulance Paramedics of BC (CUPE 873) on Monday honoured NDP MLA Mike Farnworth and another man for their timely intervention that helped save the life of a heart attack victim in February.

Farnworth, the MLA for Port Coquitlam, was one of two passersby who came upon Mikhail Morokhovich, 43, as he lay struck with a severe heart attack on a Burke Mountain sidewalk.  Farnworth and James Smith administered cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)—which turned out to be a critical factor in saving Morokhovich’s life.

During an emotional press conference attended by Morokhovich and his family, paramedics awarded each rescuer with official Ambulance Paramedics of BC jackets and credited the pair for saving the man’s life.

“Without a doubt, the quick actions of these two heroes saved Mr. Morokhovich’s life,” said CUPE 873 president Bronwyn Barter. “We urge everyone to learn CPR.”
