K-12 Provincial Bargaining Committee starts the ball rolling

K-12 Provincial Bargaining Committee starts the ball rolling

RICHMOND—CUPE’s K–12 Provincial Bargaining Committee (PBC) met for two days on March 13 and 14 in Richmond. There was a full agenda with the primary goal to develop provincial proposals for recommendation to the K-12 Presidents’ Council for ratification.

The PBC reviewed the bargaining survey, which was very well received by CUPE members. The Committee held a brainstorming session on the survey and considered the good, bad and ugly on all survey topics. They also discussed certain expected Employer proposals and how to deal with those.

Ultimately the committee arrived at thirteen proposals and spent most of the second day refining the language as well as determining next steps and how to find additional support for our proposals. The committee was also provided a short bargaining training session by CUPE Education Representative Greg Burkitt. Overall it was an exciting start to what could be either a long or short bargaining process!
