Convention 2018 reaffirms CUPE BC’s commitment to member engagement and political action

VANCOUVER – CUPE BC’s 55th annual convention in Vancouver ended today, with delegates approving an Action Plan for the coming year, reaffirming the union’s commitment to strengthening its membership, defending public services and the dignity of members’ work, building solidarity and capacity, and ongoing political action—including campaigning for a “Yes” vote in the upcoming referendum on proportional representation.

Highlights of the convention included international guest speaker Berenice Celeyta, who thanked CUPE BC for its continued support of human rights in her native Colombia, and B.C. Premier John Horgan’s keynote address on Friday.

Horgan’s speech received multiple standing ovations from more than 600 delegates and guests, and he thanked CUPE members across the province for their help in the BC NDP winning last year’s provincial election.

All convention documents, committee reports and full write-ups of the proceedings can be found here, and a gallery of convention photos can be found here.
