Community Social Services Committee

Community Social Services Committee

Protecting and supporting our society’s most vulnerable

This committee deals with issues specific to community social service workers who are employed in general services and community living services, Indigenous services, childcare, and services for some of B.C.’s most vulnerable populations.

The Committee works with sector locals, and in solidarity with other unions, to promote the expansion of community social services in B.C. and advocate for better wages and working conditions for the workers who provide them.

Making life better for everyone

The Committee has worked across the sector to address various issues affecting British Columbians who rely on the critical services community social service workers provide.

Committee recommendations to the Executive Board have included resolutions to support the Housing First Model for those at risk, and the decriminalization of narcotics for personal possession. The Committee is supporting further advocacy at the provincial level to address the continuing recruitment and retention crisis in the sector. Together with the Skilled Trades Committee, it is also exploring ways to support people with disabilities who work in the trades.
