CORPORATE – BC Transit and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 4500 (CUPE 4500) have ratified a new labour agreement under the Province of British Columbia’s Economic Stability Mandate.
The term of the agreement is five and one half years, to December 31, 2020. It covers 19 full-time employees based in Victoria covering three job classifications: Transit Supervisors, Lead Transit Supervisors and Transit Communications Coordinators.
“BC Transit is pleased to have an early agreement with CUPE 4500, six months before the current contract was set to expire,” said President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “These employees play an essential role in our operations to maintain the safety and security of our passengers and transit operators. I thank the members of both bargaining teams for their hard work and cooperation to achieve this.”
“This agreement works well for everyone, and the bargaining environment was one of mutual respect throughout,” said CUPE 4500 President Rob Woods. “Our members look forward to working together with BC Transit to provide the best service possible to the public.”
The agreement provides for a modest 5.5 per cent wage increase over the term with the potential for additional increases if the B.C. economy exceeds the annual forecasts set by the Economic Forecast Council during the last four years of the agreement.
