CUPE custodian chart surfs in the hip hop world

PENTICTON - Zane Gold is a school custodian with big dreams. A CUPE 523 member in Penticton schools since 1999, he has left and returned a few times, but it is likely his future is in the music industry. And he has lots of support from friends and family, including his dad who worked for the Okanagan-Skaha school district for 25 years.

Now in his early 30s, Zane has had a lot of experiences and some pretty big musical wins already.

Young workers’ conference a wrap

NARAMATA—CUPE British Columbia’s second young workers’ conference wrapped up on Wednesday. The conference brought together 54 young CUPE members from across the province – a 38 per cent increase in attendance from the first conference.

Young workers conference opens

NARAMATA – CUPE BC’s Young Workers’ Task Force kicked off their second conference in Naramata on Sunday evening. With 54 delegates attending, participation is up 38 per cent from the conference held two years ago.

“It’s great to see all the first-time delegates,” said A.J. Basaraba, vice president of CUPE 523 Okanagan Skaha and one of the conference organizers. “I hope it’s the track that leads them to union activism.”

CUPE BC prepares for Young Workers Conference

NARAMATA—Registration spots are still open for CUPE BC’s Young Workers Conference, which is being held from June 7-10 at Naramata Centre.

The conference is open to members up to and including 30 years of age. The conference opens on Sunday, June 7 with registration starting at 3 p.m., dinner at 5:30 and the opening plenary at 7:30 p.m.
