CUPE 4163 reaches tentative agreement at UVic

VICTORIA – After a prolonged bargaining process, CUPE 4163 reached a tentative agreement on behalf of workers in Components 1 and 2 at the University of Victoria.  The agreement was reached late on Friday.

Details of the tentative agreement will not be released publicly until CUPE 4163 members have reviewed the agreement and held a ratification vote, expected to be completed by the end of March.

UVic education workers take strike vote

VICTORIA – Components 1 and 2 of CUPE Local 4163, University of Victoria education workers, have given their bargaining committee a strong strike mandate in voting that was completed Friday evening.

“It’s been very disappointing that the University negotiators have not taken our members’ concerns seriously,” said CUPE 4163 President Alex McLeod.

CUPE 3886 reaches tentative agreement with Royal Roads

VICTORIA – CUPE 3886, representing workers at Royal Roads University reached a tentative agreement late last week.

“The dedication and efforts of our bargaining committee are much appreciated,” said CUPE 3886 President Paul Allison. “We need to move away from provincial mandates that make collective bargaining so difficult.”

The agreement follows the five-year provincial mandate.

New agreement achieved for CUPE Local 4879 workers at Thompson Rivers University

KAMLOOPS - The union representing close to 500 workers at Thompson Rivers University ratified a new collective agreement that includes a 5.4 per cent wage increase over a 5 year period, as well as health benefit improvements.

“It was hard bargaining,” said Lois Rugg, President of CUPE Local 4879.  “The union focused on increased health care benefits for vision wear and dental implants and addressed a number of important issues for our members.”

UBC locals call for transparency, openness on Gupta exit

VANCOUVER – In a joint letter to the UBC Board of Governors chair, all three presidents from CUPE locals have raised concerns about the handling of the recent departure of UBC President, Dr. Arvind Gupta.

CUPE 116 President Colleen Garbe was a member of the 22-person selection committee that included unions, faculty, alumni, management and professional staff, students and board members from both the UBC and Okanagan campuses.  The committee did a yearlong global search and made a thoughtful, informed decision collectively.

CUPE 1004 reaches mediated settlement with CSU

VANCOUVER – CUPE 1004, representing workers who provide support services to students at Capilano University, has reached a tentative agreement with the Capilano Students’ Union (CSU).

The settlement was reached through a mediator on Saturday, in time to avert a lockout by CSU that was due to start on Monday, August 24.

Capilano Students’ Union workers locked out

NORTH VANCOUVER – As a new academic year is about to begin, the Capilano Students’ Union (CSU) has chosen to disrupt services for students by locking out unionized staff beginning Monday, August 24.

The move comes after members of CUPE Local 1004, which represents CSU staff, voted unanimously to reject the employer’s final offer.

Sarah Silvester, bargaining committee member and CUPE 1004 Executive Member said that her members are concerned about their livelihood and also have concerns for what Capilano students will face as they attempt to settle into a new school year.

CUPE 3799 ratifies collective agreement with UNBC

PRINCE GEORGE – CUPE Local 3799 ratified a collective agreement with the University of Northern British Columbia today.

“I want to commend UNBC for working collaboratively and respectfully with CUPE Local 3799,” said CUPE 3799 president Caroline Sewell. “This agreement was reached in large part because of a good working relationship between our local and UNBC.”

SFU workers ratify deal

BURNABY – The prolonged labour dispute between Simon Fraser University and the 1,000 members of CUPE Local 3338 has finally come to a close as workers ratified a four year deal following three days of electronic voting which ended 4 PM on Friday, June 28th.
