VANCOUVER—CUPE 3338, Simon Fraser University support staff will continue rotating job action Monday morning pending agreement by SFU administration to the appointment of a mediator arbitrator to resolve outstanding issues.
“All issues except benefits, wages, and some working conditions have been resolved or removed from the table.” said Lynne Fowler, CUPE 3338 president. “We are hoping that the university will consider proceeding with the mediator arbitrator route as a means of resolving issues that have been going on far too long already.” SFU support staff have been without a contract for well over a year. During that period of time the university has settled with administrative staff, faculty and teaching assistants.
“For the moment,” said Fowler, “we have no choice but to continue job actions. We intend to keep the pressure up on administration by keeping Strand Hall, the administrative headquarters shut down for the time being.”
Members will be pulled off the job in other locations on campus to ensure that the picket lines at Strand Hall are strong today, Monday, March 31.
“Fairness has the driving issue for SFU support staff,” said John Bannister, CUPE business agent. “Settlements with other employee groups included wage and benefit improvements. We expect nothing less for support staff.”
